A creation from Oglala Sioux Enrolled Tribal Member, Diane Tells His Name. Diane has dolls in exhibits, museums and galleries. Among other credits, Diane has been selected to be a judge at the juried art show at the Annual Indian Fair at the Museum of Man, Balboa Park in past years; has dolls in the Autry Collection (Los Angeles), the May Collection (San Diego) and is has a doll recently accessioned into the National Mus. of American Indian (Smithsonian) .

This is Pretty Shield. She wears a faux tan suede fringed dress with glass beads. Hairbone breastplate in traditional Lakota woman's style. Soft leather accessories. Horse tail for hair. 11" tall. Pretty Shield is named for my no-nonsense Great Grandmother Mattie Shield. Original displayed at the 2016 summer show Ottowa's Carnegie Community Center, Kansas.

Pretty Shield - Born before the reservation days came, my grgrandmother was a medicine woman, midwife and was a participant in Buffalo Bills Wild West Show. She helped grgrrandfather with his cattle and ranching in later years out at Pine Ridge. Grandmother Shield was a strong woman in difficult times.

Pretty Shield is signed by me on her upper left thigh and come with a Card of Authenticity. Please allow at least one week for her creations, thank you.

Care instructions

Dolls will last for many years with care. Yearly or so use a soft makeup brush to dust doll off. Any stray horse tail hair can be easily tucked back into place using needle nose pliers . Spots and dirt can be removed using mild dishsoap and water , dapping spot with light pressure and swirling motion using small ,soft paint brush. The lighter suede can be cleaned with white baby powder using a small brush also.
If your doll includes a feather and it deteriorates , I will replace it anytime. Just email me!
